A hand thrown ceramic Planter with drainage holes, unglazed, showing the flame pattern of the fire in a large brick soda kiln. Based off my minimalist mug design, this planter would hold a medium sized plant. about 6”

What is Soda Firing?
Soda firing is an atmospheric firing technique where sodium bi-carbonate and sodium carbonate (soda ash) is introduced into the kiln during the peak of the gas firing process. The sodium vaporizes and travels through the kiln following the path of the flame, and combines with the silica in the clay to form a basic glaze. The sodium also reacts with other metals in the clay to produce different colors on the piece. The whole firing process requires 9-12 hours of attending to the kiln and manually adjusting the gas level to achieve the desired temperature. Three days of loading/firing/unloading, many failed/refired pots, and traveling to a communal atmospheric kiln make the Soda and wood fired pots in my collection stand apart. The result is a truly one of a kind piece of functional art.

Roughly 7” tall, 6” x 6” diameter
